Next week… May 7th through 14th is National Music Week. Music is one of the most sublime of human pursuits, and is subscribed to by all races and creeds. Its use promotes understanding, friendliness and sympathy among all people. Through music, the composer expresses a variety of moods; the listener experiences a mystical awareness that transports him from the cares and troubles that beset humanity. Music is the language of all peoples. Whether used nationally or internationally, music is a great force in creating peace and harmony.

"Music helps you bond with your child, too. It'll move you to dance a jig or belt out a tune, much to the thrill of your little one. Imagine the joy you'll share swaying to the beat of a lovely melody (try Stevie Wonder's "You Are the Sunshine of My Life"). Or how much fun he'll have jumping with you in an energetic musical number ("The Chicken Dance" will leave you rolling on the floor with laughter).
Some experts go so far as to say that exposure to music makes children smarter, but hardly any data exists to validate this point. "The science is in its infancy," says Gordon Shaw, a physics professor and neuroscientist who studies music and brain development at the University of California at Irvine.
Children love music… Music should be an important part of your child care. We have plenty of musical choices at our childcare… Everything from Disney to Raffi to Mr Jim to Greg & Steve to The Wiggles and more. There are hundreds of children’s musical artists to choose from. The main thing is to choose some and use them! I can recommend any of those I have listed, but my favorite is Penny & Pals. Nothing gets us moving better than a little Barnyard Bash… I would recommend any of their CD’s (and tell Penny I sent you…)
